Sarah Nind

Sarah Nind was born in Borneo in 1957.   Before completing her MFA
at York University, Toronto, she received a Bachelor of Architecture from the University of Toronto and studied at the Ecole des Beaux Arts, Paris.  Her work has been widely exhibited and has been collected by the Royal Bank, Teleglobe Canada and the Univeristy of Toronto.  She is currently slated to be part of a touring exhibition with the Canadian Museum of Photography in 2006. Sarah Nind combines painting and photography to create landscapes that are real yet fictional, evocative and emotional.  She first takes a slide image and prints it onto a large sheet of Ortholith Film, then paints the back of the
film with oil paint, thereby adding colour to the black image that is the photograph.  The sheet of film is mounted to acid-free masonite.  In this way she combines the purported certainty of photography with the deliberating subjectivity of the painter.
