Chris Dorosz uses technology
as fodder for modifying traditional painting into new forms and functions.
His "staple paintings" are an attempt to reconcile digital space or systems
with physical space. They are made by placing thousands of loose, industrial-sized
staples onto a blank canvas and then pouring paint inside each compartment.
The result is an undulating pixel-like field of paint on canvas. In his "California
(Part 2) three-dimensional paintings he replaces the threads (of a canvas)
with clear, thin, plastic rods and suspends drops of paint on them, thereby
creating not only the flesh of the painting but the meat of the form as well.
Chris Dorosz was born in Ottawa in 1972. He graduated with an MFA from
the Nova Scotia School of Art and Design
